There are several wild swimming locations near, or only a short drive from our cottages in Boot.

Wastwater Lake is a hike, or short drive from our cottages in Boot village. Much of Wastwater is accessible via a road that follows the entire length of the north side, so you can easily find your own, quiet wild swimming spot, or plunge rock for quick entry. Wastwater is England’s deepest lake, as such, the water is chilly, even in summer, but it is crystal clear.

Wastwater’s shallow rock pools are perfect for children to play in, or for the dog to splash around in, whilst you relax and take in the breathtaking views.
Wild swimming in Eskdale is not just about swimming, but also rock jumping. There are some fantastic rock jumps and plunge pools in and around Tongue Pot.
This waterfall and plunge pool is located near Tongue Pot. Explore and find your perfect plunge pool and spend hours swimming and rock jumping into clean, crystal clear Lake District water.

Devoke Water is a 3-4 km hike from our Lake District cottages in Boot, heading south west, or a short drive. You can park your car close to the lake. This lake is ideal for wild swimming, but there are few plunge locations. It is usually very quiet even in peak season.
Blea Tarn is located on Harter Fell, which is behind our cottages in Boot. Take a hike up to the lake and treat yourself to an invigorating dip in its chilly waters to cool down on those hot summer days.
